Your Guide To Kalbarri

If you're traveling around WA, or looking for a short trip away from Perth, Kalbarri is the location to add to your list.

We often stop by for a day or two while we travel up to Coral Bay and Exmouth, you only need a few days to see it all - so here is what we recommend:

Kalbarri National Park

There are multiple walks to do in Kalbarri National Park, from quick and breezy short walks to full day hikes. We are yet to do them all, but have thoroughly enjoyed the few we have completed.

Z-Bend walk (River trail)

This is an amazing walk leaving from the Z-bend car park that offers an incredible (slightly strenuous) walk down and along the riverbank of the gorge.  It will take approx 2-3 hours and is 2.1kms. It is classed as a difficult track and there is a fair amount of rock scrambling involved, so we recommend coming prepared with a good set of hiking boots and the right gear. You can take a dip in the water at the bottom, but be warned - the water is very cold.

Natures Window & The Loop Track

An iconic spot carved by nature. A naturally occurring window that just happened to have an incredible view on the other side. It is a very very popular spot for visitors so get there early to beat the crowds (and also for the perfect lighting for photos)

The walk to the window is pretty easy and short, approx 1 km return and will take approx 30-40 minutes with a fair few stairs on the way.  There is also a walk that continues from this spot that is well worth doing. Called the Loop Trail - it's a much bigger track that will take 3-5 hours and is a class 4 (difficult) the walk is over 9km, so you will need to plan it into your day - we recommend heading there very early!

The Skywalk

This is a new addition to the national park, and a very popular one! Especially for those with drones that want that classic shot. (you have more than likely seen it all over your instagram already - and if you haven't, you can see ours below).

We recommend heading there before sunset or at sunrise to see the landscape glow with the low light, or just to beat the crowds. There is also a cafe here - but we haven’t eaten there yet, so can’t vouch for it just yet - but their offering looks good.

Coastal Cliffs

A walk like no other, these coastal cliffs are simply a sight to see. Located just out of town, it's a quick drive and a lovely walk along the cliffs edge. A Boardwalk makes the walk easy as, with very little effort required. We highly recommend a good jacket or windbreaker as the winds are very strong!

Pink lake (Hutt Lagoon)

Another icon of Australia’s Coral Coast. This pink salt lake is a must see when visiting Kalbarri.

It's approx an hour south of town - and in truth it isn't in Kalbarri, but in Port Gregory (but close enough that we count it here.

You won’t need long here as it's more of a scenic look out than an actual attraction. You can’t swim here, so you wont need more than a few mins to drive by and take a few pictures. . But it's still worth fitting into your itinerary.

And that's a wrap on Kalbarri. There are plenty of other things to do in the area, however we haven't been back since the cyclone went through in 2021, and we are not sure how particular locations are recovering, so we won't recommend any more places until we have returned to see it for ourselves.

If you're planning on doing a road trip of the coral coast we recommend checking out our other blogs on the areas such as Coral Bay or Exmouth. If you have any questions or want to know more about our time, traveling though these towns, drop a comment below or slide into our DMs on Instagram.
