Must Visit Beaches In Esperance

Updated: Jul 8

Want crystal clear waters, white soft sand and empty beaches? Then Esperance is the place for you. We love Esperance so much we have been back almost every year.

We have sussed out almost every beach on our many trips and have nailed it down to our favourite spots that we go back to every time. Here are our top beaches you can’t miss.

Twilight Beach

A very popular beach located close to town, Twilight Beach is a must see location.

The giant rocks in the water almost look like a dinosaur skeleton, you can even swim out and jump off the rocks. This beach is also a great place to take a stand up paddle board as the swell is usually very gentle.

It's the main beach in Esperance so on a hot day you might be fighting for a spot. Especially on the weekend, but it’s still worth the visit.

Whartons Beach

Whartons beach isn't exactly in the Esperance area, and will take you a little over an hour to get there from the town centre. But well worth the drive.

Like most beaches in Esperance the beach is made up of white sand, and some of the clearest water we have ever seen.

You will need a 4WD to get here as it is a little off the main road and there is some soft sand along the way. You can also 4WD the whole beach and surrounding sand dunes. The sand is hard enough we didn't even need to let down the tires to drive on the beach.

Lucky Bay, Cape Le Grand National Park

One of Australia's most famous beaches thanks to the many kangaroos you will find lounging on the white sand soaking up the sun.

We usually head there first thing in the morning as kangaroos are the most active at dawn. Also to avoid all of the crowds as it gets busy, especially during summer. You can still see them all times of the day, so don’t worry if you snooze your alarm too many times. You just might be sharing the shot with lots of other people.

Of course they are wild animals, so you aren't guaranteed to see them. So we recommend leaving a fews days to visit to make sure you have a few chances at getting that classic shot.

Lucky bay is also one of the few beaches you can drive on. The sand is hard enough almost any car can drive on it, not just 4WDs, however don't go too far up the beach as it gets a lot softer the further you get from the entrance point - we got ourselves pretty badly bogged when we tried to get to the other side of the bay.

Hellfire Beach, Cape Le Grand National Park

My favourite beach to chill out, sun bake and enjoy a swim. Very similar to Lucky bay, the beach has stunning turquoise water and soft white sand.

The reason it’s one of our favourite beaches is because it’s one of the least visited spots in Cape Le Grand National Park as most tourists flock to Lucky Bay Beach. We have been so many times and usually have the whole beach to ourselves. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the water.

Wylie Bay

The thing that makes this beach unique is the rock formation that creates the double sided beach. You can 4WD the beach and drive right down the sandbar. The sand is super soft so make sure you let down your tires.

It's only 15 minutes from town, but it's never too busy so it’s a great spot if you want to get away from the crowds.
